JLab Epic Air Sport Review - Cons

Poor Active Noise Cancelation

The JLab Epic Air Sport ANC provides control of how you hear outside noise with three noise control modes in the mobile app.  Those are ANC On/Off and Be Aware. However, we failed to see much of a difference when the active noise cancelation is on. The low-pitched noises were drowned out to a certain extent but, high pitched noises are easily heard even with active noise cancelation switched on.

Larger design + Larger Charging case

This is one of the major issues when it comes to sports earbuds that come with ear hooks. To accommodate the hooks, the charging case must be bigger as well. The charging case does fit into the pocket, but you would not have any more room to put your keys or your handkerchief. The design itself could be stressing on the ear when you wear these buds for a longer period.

Inconsistent response from the touch controls

The JLab Epic Air Sport ANC comes with touch-capacitive controls. During testing, we realized that the response was not so accurate as we expected. It’s as if the touch sensor is too small, that you need to touch the exact spot to get the desired action. This is a common issue when it comes truly wireless earbuds that have touch-capacitive controls.

JLab Epic Air Sport - Design and Durability

The JLab Epic Air Sport ANC is made for fitness enthusiasts. The design has ear hooks to keep the buds in place even during intense workouts or jogging. The buds weigh around 10 grams each, and the charging case weighs just 144g even with the massive battery. Both buds have touch-capacitive controls and these controls are not customizable. In the box, you get five sizes of ear tips while one pair which are cloud form tips. The box does not come with a USB cable as the charging case has an integrated USB cable.

When it comes to the durability factor, the JLab Epic Air Sport ANC comes with a high-water resistance rating. It is amongst the best truly wireless earbuds that proved such high durability.  There are only a few truly wireless earbuds that provide a higher water resistance rating. These new buds are water and sweat resistant which allows the user to use these in any kind of environment without any issues.

JLab Epic Air Sport - Control and Digital Assistant

The touch capacitive controls in these JLab Epic Air Sport ANC are quite useful compared to other truly wireless earbuds. These controls are not customizable.

The fact that the user has the luxury of controlling the volume using the buds, is one of the best features of these buds. It is a rarity when it comes to truly wireless earbuds. The buds support all digital assistants, which is a bonus to this product.

App and Special Features

The JLab Epic Air Sport ANC has its mobile application. It is available on both android and IOS platforms. The app provides a few important functionalities and information to the user. The battery levels of both buds are shown on the home page. The user controls the active noise cancelation level on the app. There is an option to update the buds using the application and other information when it comes to the buds.

The JLab Air ANC App provides the user with the ability to tweak the frequency range and tune things to your liking. Even if you don’t like the default EQ presets, you can easily get your preferred audio output if you invest some time in the settings.

When it comes to special features, the JLab Epic Air Sport allows the user to choose whether he wants to use one earbud or both. The Dual connect feature allows the user to use either earbud independently while the other earbud is charging on the case or just resting on the table.

There is a movie mode in these buds. It elevates your video streaming experience. It is a super low latency mode which reduces the audio lag so that there won’t be any notable difference between voice and the video.

Another feature in the JLab Epic Air Sport ANC’s its wear detection sensor. It automatically pauses a track when a bud is removed from your ear, and it will resume the track once you put on the bud.

Audio Quality

The JLab Epic Air Sport ANC comes with 8mmdynamic speakers with a Neodymium magnet. The audio quality however is nothing compared to any high-end brands such as the Sennheiser Momentum 2 or the Apple Airpods Pro. The bass is prominent, and it feels like you are standing in front of a stage with the speakers in front of you. There is much soundstage, but the sound separation is quite good compared to other truly wireless earbuds in the same price range.

Noise Cancelation

Like we mentioned earlier, the JLab Epic Air Sport ANC comes with active noise cancelation. However, the active noise cancelation is quite disappointing. When you turn active noise cancellation on, to be honest, it’s hard to notice a significant difference. The high-pitched noise is easily heard even with noise cancelation at the highest level. The app lets you adjust noise cancellation levels, and I would advise you to keep active noise cancelation in its maximum setting to get the most out of it.

Battery and Performance

The JLab Epic Air Sport ANC is right at the top when it comes to battery life. The buds are equipped with 120mAh lithium rechargeable batteries which guaranty 15 hours of battery life per charge without active noise cancelation, plus an added 55 hours of battery life from the charging case. With active noise cancelation on, it lasts up to 11 hours. There is a quick charge feature that gives you an hour of battery life after 15 minutes in the case.

JLab Epic Air Sport Charging Case

The charging case is unique to the JLab. It comes with an integrated USB cable. You can use your adapter to charge it wherever you go. The downside of this is the charging cable is noticeably short. Still, it makes life easier for the user. The charging case has a 1000mAh battery which provides a 5 charging cycle for the buds. This charging case has the highest charging capacity when it comes to truly wireless earbuds.

Call Quality & Connectivity

The JLab Epic Air Sport ANC has only one mic dedicated to eliminating the surrounding noise, and another mic for picking up your voice. However, you sound distant when you speak in a crowded place.

These earbuds come with Bluetooth 5.0. which is the benchmark amongst all top brands. Bluetooth 5.0 allows these buds to have a connectivity range of more than 40 ft which is more than enough for the user.

Final Say

Well, what else can I say than to confirm that these buds are the best deal out there in the market. The features and especially the battery life makes these buds one of the best in the market. However, if you are expecting the best quality audio output and quality active noise cancelation. For that, you will have to spend a few extra bucks. You can not complain about anything when it comes to these JLab Epic Air Sport ANC buds.
