Google Pixel Buds 2 - Pros

Trendier Design and Rich Finish

The Google Pixel Buds 2 comes with a neat finish and a very convenient design. The fixed ear fins keep it in the ear while you are working out. The mat finish makes it look rich and trendy. The super-small profile means the earbuds do not stick out of the ear. The slim and sleek charging case fits your inner front pocket, which makes it easy to carry around. For users who wear the earbuds through the day, you shouldn’t need to worry about taking the case wherever you go. You wouldn’t feel it in your pocket.

Seamless Connectivity With Bluetooth 5.0

The pairing is quick and easy with these Google Pixel Buds 2. The initial set up and pairing takes a bit of time, but after that, it only takes mere seconds to pair, and you are good to go. There is no video lag when using Netflix or Youtube, which means it is ideal for Vloggers as well. This technology gives uninterrupted connectivity up to 50 Ft Radius, which rates these truly wireless earbuds high up amongst the best.

Wireless Charging and Fast Charge Support

The charging comes with USB Type-C charging port which is the normalcy when it comes to wired charging, but most importantly the case supports wireless charging unlike the Sennhesier Momentum 2 buds. If you are using a power sharing enabled phone you could use to charge the case and extend you usage time. To add to that, the case supports quick charge. A quick 10-minute charge in the case will give 2 hours of uninterrupted playback.

Only 179$!!

The price tag is what makes these worth it. Compared to everything else you get in the market, the Google Pixel Buds 2 stands out with its price tag. The features, audio quality, and the design make these worth every penny you spend. Good enough battery life, an IPX4 rating, and wireless charging are what any truly wireless earbuds user expects.

Google Pixel Buds 2 - Cons

Fixed Ear fins

The Google Pixel Buds 2 comes with three sizes of ear tips that you can use according to your fit. But these earbuds are equipped with an ear fin, which is fixed to the buds permanently. The fin is at an average size, which could be ideal for many users. It does not mean it would work for anyone. Since these Google Pixel Buds 2 do not come with active noise cancellation, the sealed fit is the only barrier that prevents outside noise from disturbing the audio. These fixed Ear fins could be a negative design feature to a user which it does not fit correctly.

Touch-sensitive controls

The touch-sensitive controls on the buds could take some time to work out for the user. Especially when controlling the volume, the Google Pixel Buds 2 comes with the control feature where you can swipe forward and backward to control the volume. This could happen by accident when you are trying to do something else as well, like skipping to the next song or the previous one. A slight swipe could increase or reduce the volume. It takes a bit of practice to get a hold of this feature, but once you get used to it, it should be fine, and you are good to go.

No Active Noise Cancelation

Most truly wireless earbuds such as the Apple Aipod Pro comes with Active Noise Cancelation. Unfortunately, Google Pixel Buds 2 does not have ANC. It only provides Passive Noise Isolation which uses the design and the physical fit to dampen the outside noise to give better and clear sound to the user. The fact that these earbuds have a fixed ear fin and for some user it would not give the perfect fit, the Passive noise cancelation would not suffice. However, after using and going through many comments from the user, there is hardly a complain about noise cancelation. If you are extremely specific when it comes to noise cancelation, you would be a touch disappointed.

Average battery Life

Google Pixel buds 2 comes with a guaranteed 5 hours of nonstop playback. This is quite good, but you still find other options with more than 5 hours of battery life such as the Sennheiser Momentum 2. These options could be touch expensive, but for user who value longer battery life would not go for these Google Pixel Buds 2. However, the charging case adds another 19 hours of playback which solves the problem and a 10-minute quick charge gives 2 hours of nonstop playback as well.

Water-Resistant Rating IPX4

The Google Pixel Buds come with a water-resistant rating of IPX4. It is only resistant against splashes of water and sweat. The average rating could be another negative feature for the consumer because other options provide higher water resistance. However, an IPX4 rating is enough for all-day use. If you are an active person, you can wear these while jogging because it is sweat proof.

Google Pixel Buds 2 - Design and Durability

The new Google Pixel Buds 2 comes with a brand-new design. It is a big leap forward from its predecessor, which had a wire connecting the earbuds. The two buds come separately with a sleek mat finish, which gives it a rich look. Google launched these initially in white color, but now you can get these earbuds in four colors. The colors are White, Orange, Mint, and Black.

The design comes with a fixed ear fin. This unique feature compared to Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus or the Jabra Elite Active 75t. it comes in an average size to support the ear bud to stay put inside your ear. This helps better fit while you are jogging and clenching your teeth while working out in the gym. The three sizes of ear tips will help you choose what suits you the most so that it provides a good fit for your ear.

The design itself takes these earbuds miles ahead of the very first Google Pixel buds. These earbuds do not stick out of your ear, and its small design and the low weight factor makes it comfortable for the user.

Pixel Buds 2 - Control and Digital Assistant

Google Pixel Buds 2 comes with the primary control features built into its touch-capacitive controls. The features are below

Touch Buttons Functions

One Tap

Play/Pause Audio or Answer calls

Double Tap

To skip forward to the next track or Decline Calls

Triple Tap

To go back to the previous track

Tap and Hold

For google assistant or to hear notifications

Swipe forward/backward

For volume control

These options are available through either earbud, which makes it easier for the user. These work seamlessly with google assistant. You can simply say “Hey Google” and say what music you wanna hear or to call someone. Google Assistant supports music platforms such as Google play music, youtube, Spotify, iHeart Radio, and TuneIn. You can use these buds to do real-time translation using Google Translate, which is another excellent feature. For google and android users, these truly wireless earbuds make life more comfortable, and it makes worthy of every penny you spend on these.

App and Special Features

The Google Pixel buds 2 comes with an app, and this is another new feature that Google added to the new earbuds. The app has all the control features and how you can use them to control music, calls, etc. there are few unique features inbuilt to the app as well. You get the find device option where you can manually make the bud ring to locate it. There is another feature called “Adaptive Sound.” This feature optimizes the volume depending on the environmental noise. You can switch it on or off using the app. The in-ear detection can be switch off using the app. You could check out the remaining battery percentage of the charging case and earbud using the app as well. However, unlike many other truly wireless earbud apps, the Google Pixel Bud 2 app does not come with an in-built equalizer. You will have to use the devices equalizer to control the bass, mids, and the highs.

Audio Quality

The Google Pixel Buds 2 comes with excellent audio quality. Comparatively to its predecessor, it is another big step forward in the new earbuds. These truly wireless earbuds give a clean and well-balanced sound. It is ideal for podcasts, audiobooks, and vlogs. The 12mm dynamic speaker provides high-quality sound separations, which isolated different instruments to give you a good feel of what you are listening However, the bass is not that prominent when you compare these with other high-end brands that have already launched truly wireless earbuds. It is subjective, but if you are a real base lover who listens to heavy bass music, you wouldn’t be thrilled by the quality of these Google Pixel buds 2. For the price that you are paying to get these Google Pixel buds 2, truly does justice to the audio quality it provides. Everything comes with a price; for 179$, these Google Pixel Buds 2 provide ample quality when it comes to audio.

Noise Cancelation

The Google Pixel Buds 2 does not come with Active Noise Cancelation, which means it is tough to compete with the Sennheiser Momentum 2 or the Apple Airpod Pro. It only provides Passive noise isolations which is done by solely by the physical fit of the ear buds and design to block or dampen the outside noise to give you a better Audio Experience.

The ear tips and the fixed ear fin in the new Google Pixel Buds 2 do an excellent job of isolating the noise from the outside. The 12mm dynamic speakers boost the audio high enough to drown out the noises and lets you enjoy uninterrupted audio. We repeat this; these Google Pixel buds two truly do justice to its price tag of only 179$.

Battery and Performance

Google Guarantees 5 hours of playback time from the ear buds, which is less than what you get from the Jabra Elite Active 75t. That is in the mid-range when compared to other truly wireless earbuds in the market. It provides up to 2.5 hours of non-stop talk time. Its average but its still good for day-to-day use.

Give the fact that the case provides an additional 19 hours of playback time; we believe you could easily get through the day with these Google Pixel Buds 2.

Google Pixel Buds 2 Case

The charging case another reason why these Google Pixel Buds are one of the best in the market. The slim and rich design makes it trendy and convenient for the user. The charging fits perfectly into your inner front pocket. It is easy to carry wherever you go, and you could use to charge your earbuds when it is not in use. The mat finish gives it a rich look, and it comes with a USB Type-C wired charging option. Most importantly, the case supports wireless charging. You can use your power-sharing enabled phone to recharge the case anywhere you go. The charging case adds another extra 19 hours of playback and 12 hours of talk time, which is more than enough to get through the day. A quick charge of just 10 minutes will give 2 hours of playback from the earbuds. You could use one earbud while the other charges in the case since both earbuds provide independent control. All in all, the charging case is a massive boost to these new Google Pixel Buds 2, which makes these of the best in the market.

Call Quality and Connectivity

The call quality is average. It is very clear, although it could sound mechanical, yet it does the job of isolating your voice in a crowded place. For budget earbud like the Google Pixel buds 2, it indeed does justice for the amount. The Google Pixel Buds 2 uses Bluetooth 5.0 for connectivity. The initial setup and pairing take some time, but afterward, the pairing is seamless. There are no video lags when it comes to Youtube or Netflix, which is another plus. These provide uninterrupted connectivity up to 50ft radius, which is more than enough.

Final Say

Given the price and features of these brand-new Google Pixel buds 2, it is fair to say its worth it all. However, there few shortcomings in these truly wireless earbuds, but it is subjective. This is what we think after testing them out in different conditions. Do let us know what you think of the device and feel free to leave a comment on the comment section below.
